ABOUT ME
Rachel Kisela | she/her
Hi! I'm Rachel, a freelance video editor based in Los Angeles.
In 2023, I was a Lead Video Editor for the main channel at MrBeast, where I led teams of editors to craft retention-optimized videos for hundreds of millions of viewers around the world. During my time there, I was the first female Lead Video Editor in the history of the channel, led the editing some of the highest-watched videos in channel history, and MrBeast became the most-subscribed YouTuber in the world.
I have a Master's degree in Documentary Journalism from the University of Southern California and an honor's undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Washington with two minors in Music and Informatics.
I am deeply interested in the intersection of technology and society, starting my editing career by working on the documentary Screenagers: NEXT CHAPTER, about screen time and mental health, with Stanford doctor and filmmaker Delaney Ruston. While at UW, I received a research scholarship and wrote an honors thesis about the effect of social media on body image and was President of the university's largest filmmaking organization, LUX: Film Production Club. At USC, I produced a documentary about new methods of digital identity authentication, which aired on television in 2023 to millions of Los Angeles households. During this time, I also gave a TEDx talk about video thumbnails, their prevalence in the digital world, and what they indicate about new career paths in the modern age.
I am now a freelance video editor based in Los Angeles, working on both short-form and long-form social content with primarily female creators. I am passionate about encouraging women to pursue social media video editing, and founded a Discord that supports women in social editing, including facilitating connections between creators and our talented pool of women editors.
